On 24.01.2021 an online meeting was organized by ATA Platform in which dynamics of Turkish economy were discussed.
In this regard, following remarks were made:
⮚ İzmir Economy Congress and the relationship between national independence and economic independence, the erosion of Atatürk’s economic independence philosophy,
⮚ Turkey’s experience of “Mixed Economic Model”, state led industrialization and development phases experienced in this regard,
⮚ The effect of the whole of the decisions, which is called as 24 January-decisions, on the transformation of Turkish economy, and in this regard, Turkey’s economic structure and the relation between the capital and lack of savings, problems of capital accumulation in Turkey,
⮚ On economic development, Turkey’s level of technological infrastructure and digital economic processes of critical importance, reflection of digitalization and digital transformation on economic fields,
⮚ In this sense, e-commerce is gradually increased in the world, the share of e-commerce in Turkey has been rising as well, necessary up-to-date regulations and necessary technological infrastructure in this field should be developed, the Digital Transformation Office of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey has set targets in this field in 2018, Covid-19 problem experienced around the world has a positive effect on the growth of digital economy and digital systems,
⮚ In recent years, with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis, impoverishment and unemployment have increased, there will be pains in the withdrawal of the hot money pumped to the world after the 2008 banking crisis, chaos will be more effective than crises after Covid-19,
Whereas, the following points are discussed in detail for the solution of the economic problems of Turkey;
⮚ Turkey, at first step, needs a healthy system of rules and regulations for the improvement of the economic system and the implementation of the law,
⮚ Turkey could transform the economic processes appeared after the Covid-19 outbreak into its advantage by placing its economic structure to a supply-oriented one with a new economic model and by using geographical advantage of its geographical location,
⮚ At this point, industrialization and having a productive economy have become more valuable than ever in today’s global economic structure which centered on financial capital, it is also difficult for Turkey to complete its economic development with the current private sector structure, therefore, a state-oriented investment strategy that focuses on industrial development is essential,
⮚ Turkey’s outlook for income distribution is not very good, a process to balance the income distribution with a new taxation policy should be discussed,
⮚ Turkey binds itself in its economy and trade, and Turkey should take the industrialization and trade plan back into its own hands by signing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with other countries and with regional blocs instead of staying eternal at the EU’s Customs Union.
